Janelle Wall, Co-founder and former Co-President for Heritage Figure Skating Club.
I grew up in New Ulm, MN with my parents and four older siblings, where I started skating at the age of 8. I tested and competed in both the Ice Skating Institute (ISI) and U.S. Figure Skating competitions locally and nationally. I was fortunate enough to be trained by an Olympic coach in Fraser, MI for 3 months when I was in high school.
I started teaching for New Ulm Figure Skating Club when I was 14 and have been teaching now for a total of 27 years. I taught in New Ulm, St. Peter and Mankato before moving to Burnsville and have taught for Eagan, ISD 196, Lakeville, Northfield and Owatonna.
I am currently the Program Director for the Farmington and Apple Valley Learn to Skate Programs, and also still help out at Burnsville on occasion as well as help with their ice show every year. I also chair a nonqualifying U.S. Figure Skating competition every year. I have made many friends and contacts over the years which has become very useful in my pursuit to become the best coach I can be.
I am a member of both U.S. Figure Skating Association, Learn to Skate USA, and Professional Skaters Association (PSA). I am also Category A compliant. I have completed my Basic Accreditation through PSA and am currently preparing for my Oral exams as well as obtaining my PSA Coach Ranking.
I regularly attend clinics and seminars (including the 2015 PSA conference), and use several online training tools and subscriptions to keep my teaching knowledge as up-to-date as possible. I teach all levels of Free Skate and Moves in the Field. I have successfully coached skaters to the Junior level in the few short years since returning to full-time coaching.
I want my students to enjoy skating as much as I do. Building confidence in my students is one of my main focuses along with setting long and short-term, attainable goals. Teaching skaters that they can accomplish something they thought they could not is always my goal. I feel very blessed to be a founder of Heritage Figure Skating Club and look forward to helping build a club and team of coaches that can meet the needs of our skaters and community.
I am married to Brian and we have three children, Ashlyn (20), Dylan (16), and Kaitlyn (13). We have lived in Farmington for the past 18 years. I graduated from Northwestern College with a degree in Psychology but was home with my children and taught skating part-time until 2011 when I started coaching/directing full-time. I am very involved with my church and enjoy spending time with my family, camping, boating, biking, reading, and hanging out with friends. I try my best to soak up all this life has to offer!
